Step 2
You can place all your ingredients into small plastic containers or cups if you want to be well prepared.
Step 3
Melt your butter in a saucepan over a medium heat or put in the microwave. Then set aside to cool to room temperature. Next, pour butter into the large bowl.
Step 4
Stir in brown sugar and caster sugar.
Stir until smooth and sugar has mostly dissolved.
Step 5
Lightly beat the egg with a whisk or fork.
Step 6
Add beaten egg to bowl. Stir into the sugar mixture.
Step 7
Add the vanilla extract.
Step 8
Add the self raising flour through the sieve to the clear bowl.
Step 9
Then add the baking powder through the sieve to the bowl.
Step 10
Then add the plain flour to the bowl through the sieve.
Step 11
Pour the clear bowl of flour and baking soda mixture into your mixing bowl.
Step 12
Start mixing until all the flour is absorbed into the mixture and you have a nice light brown texture.
(If the mixture is a little dry, you can add a little more melted butter)
Step 13
Now add the milk chocolate chips into the bowl and stir and blend them into the mixture.
Step 14
Put your cooking trays on your worktop and using the ice cream scoop add 6 scoops to the tray lined with baking paper. Your giant chocolate cookie awaits!
Keep your scoops about 2 or 3 inches apart as they will expand in the oven.
If you want small cookies select a small amount of mixture, for large cookies scoop a large amount of mixture onto the tray.
Once you’ve filled 2 or 3 baking trays with the mixture, using the spatula pat the top of the mixture down a little.
Step 15
Now open the oven door with oven gloves and place the baking trays into the oven for 12 minutes.
Step 16
After 12 minutes check the mixture is a golden brown colour and remove the baking trays with oven gloves on. Place the baking trays on a solid surface.
Step 17
If you wish to add Smarties or M&Ms add then immediately to the cookies as soon as you have taken the cookies out of the oven.
Leave for 3 minutes on the baking tray whilst they cool down.
Step 18
Then using the spatula transfer the cookies onto the greaseproof cooling racks.
Leave for a further 5 minutes.
